Summary: Once upon a time there was a husband and wife who had a child named Rapunzel. When the wife was pregnant she craved the herb “rapunzel”, and the husband was eventually swayed into giving the child away to the sorceress in exchange for it. After raising the child the sorceress locked away Rapunzel in tall tower with no doors. The only way people could get to Rapunzel was by climbing up her hair, in which she threw down to them. After hearing Rapunzel sing the prince feel in love with her. When Rapunzel and the prince had a child, the sorceress cut off Rapunzel’s hair and made her leave. After a year of being apart, the prince and Rapunzel finally found each other and live happily ever after.
Evaluation/Reflection: This version of Rapunzel is presented in a manner in which elementary children can understand and relate to. It has eye-appealing illustrations and is a great book to teach about morals.
Memorable Literary Element: The setting of this story is beautifully illustrated and could be launching point for discussion. A character analysis would also be ideal for the this book as it involves fairy tale elements.
Illustrations: The pictures are beautifully painted and have a Renaissance resemblance and feeling. It is a great discussion point for young children, as they usually lack this exposure of artwork in children’s books.
