Title: Emotes: Abash
and The Cyber-Bully
Author: Matt Casper and Ted Dorsey
Publisher & Year of Publication: Evergrow Ltd., 2008
Genre: Fiction; Picture Book
Recommended Audience: Ages 4 to 8
Summary: The book centers around two friends and Martian like characters, Abash and Imp. Abash accidently wears two of the same shoe and Imp takes a picture of it. Another classmate gets the picture and finds a way to project it on all the school projectors. Abash is embarrassed and upset. Imp helps Abash find the person and solve the problem.
Evaluation/Reflection: This book is a jewel in that books of this nature are hard to find. Cyber bullying and internet safety are increasingly important skills, and this book provides a good launching point for discussion.
Illustrations: The illustrations are drawings, and almost comic like. The alien creatures are cute and would draw the attention of elementary students.
Review: No editorial review was found. I searched hard to access a book on this topic, and unfortunately there is limited supply of children’s literature on this subject matter.
Promotion Idea: This book could be read in conjunction with lesson on internet safety.
Acquisition: Available on Amazon for $12.47 (hardcover).
